Marcel Dupré – a man between the centuries.

Dupré Digital is an exciting journey of discovery through the musical cosmos of the French composer Marcel Dupré (1886-1971). For the 50th anniversary of his death in 2021, the Munich Dupré expert Tobias Frank initiated the international online project, which is based on three pillars: music, interviews and the newcomer project Nymphéas.

Interviews with experts (including Ben van Oosten, Jeremy Filsell, Olivier Latry, Helmut Deutsch, Robert Quinney) and contemporary witnesses (the students Michel Tissier and Dominique Rebourgeon as well as the composer’s granddaughter Alice Tollet-Szebrat) portray Dupré in 13 video episodes as an artistic personality in his contemporary historical context with all his rough edges and reveal surprising facets. All videos are subtitled in three languages: German, English and French.

Musicians around the world bring to life music that has been slumbering in the archives for decades and is being performed for the first time. Some of these works are now published bit by bit.

Browse through the site and dive into the musical cosmos of Marcel Dupré.

Marcel Dupré: NYMPHÉAS for organ | op. 54
(Listen to the music here.)

“The edition presents in one volume the original version with all the author’s indications, and a transcription for a three-manual organ. The arranger [Tobias Frank] explains in great detail how he worked, and the presence of the original version allows the performer to see exactly what changes and adaptations had to be made. Some passages even offer two possibilities of performance.”
(Guy Bovet in La tribune de l’orgue, Juni 2022, S. 45)
