Part 8: Marcel Dupré – the Visionary
Through his concert tours, Dupré became acquainted with organ standards that were different in each country. He developed his own organ-building ideals and felt that the technical standard of the organs of the time didn’t allow him to develop fully as an artist. So he had some brand new technical accessories installed in the house organ of his villa in Meudon. For this instrument, he created, among other things, the cycle Nymphéas op. 54. In this episode, we will examine what impact Dupré’s ideas had on European organ building and how revolutionary they actually were.
