Prof. Dr. Albert Gier

Prof. Dr. Albert Gier studied in Bonn and Montpellier. He received his doctorate in Bonn in 1976 and his habilitation in Heidelberg in 1984. Since about 1990, opera and operetta libretto became his central field of research. 1988-2016 Professor of Romance Studies (Literature) in Bamberg, where he founded the Documentation Centre for Libretto Research in 1994. He has been retired since 2016. Book publications include: Das Libretto. Theorie und Geschichte einer musikliterarischen Gattung (Darmstadt 1998); Wär’ es auch nichts als ein Augenblick.
