Tobias Frank

Tobias Frank is the initiator of Dupré Digital. He has been dealing with Marcel Dupré’s musical legacy for many years. When Dupré’s granddaughters Alice Szebrat and Jeanne Bernard (†2013) granted him a power of attorney, he gained access to many unpublished manuscripts. Studying the manuscripts, he became fascinated by the composer’s tremendous musical versatility. He premiered several works, such as the chamber opera La Tentation de Saint-Antoine in 2015, a work of about 80 minutes for solos, choir and piano, and Résonances in 2019, Dupré’s last work for organ and orchestra.
For the Rondeau label, Frank recorded the world premiere recording of L’apprenti sorcier by Paul Dukas, Dans les steppes de l’Asie centrale by Alexander Borodin and the Prelude No. 6 in B flat major from Opus 36 by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy in Marcel Dupré’s organ version on the Schuke organ of the Philharmonie Luxembourg. In addition, he has published articles and essays in various [scientific] journals. This year his version of Nymphéas for classical organ will be published by the German Butz-Verlag, and the Australian publisher Crescendo Publications will publish the score, the performance material and the version for organ and piano of Résonances.
Since 2015 he has been cantor and organist at the Kulturkirche St. Luke’s in Munich. Due to his services to church music, he was awarded the honorary title of Kirchenmusikdirektor Director of Music in 2020. Further information at tobiasfrank.org.
